Our ranking of the World’s Top 10 Ski Areas has a new leader. With 90 out of a possible 100 evaluation points, the Ski Arlberg ski area has, this year, assumed the throne. Its investment in the new Flexenbahn and Trittkopfbahn I and II cable-cars that came into operation in the 2016/2017 season have paid off. These new, state-of-the-art lift facilities connected the ‘missing link’ between Stuben and Zürs, thus merging the region’s three large ski areas – St. Anton, Lech-Zürs and Warth-Schröcken. With no fewer than 305 kilometres of slopes, Ski Arlberg is not only Austria’s largest lift-connected ski area, but is now among the five largest in the whole world. Furthermore, a sensational 200 kilometres of deep-snow runs are also at skiers’ disposal.

In our test the Ski Arlberg ski area made a strong impression in all categories. The numerous slopes covering all levels of difficulty offer perfect conditions for beginners, families, experts and freeriders alike. The countless plus points also include up-to-the-minute lift facilities, superb restaurants and the region’s legendary après-ski. In addition, the Arlberg ski are boasts two fantastic skiing circuits, the ‘Run of Fame’ (65 kilometres, 18,000 metres of altitude difference) and ‘The White Ring’ (22 kilometres, 5,500 metres of altitude difference). Thanks to its size and its enormous variety, Ski Arlberg is fully deserving of its new number one status.
