16 x new! Double rooms become Ski Rooms.
The secret is quality.
We are even more emotional than usual right now, because we will be starting the new winter season at the beginning of December with 16 brand new Ski Rooms and Suites. The floor plans have been optimised, new bathrooms, new beds, new furniture – everything is new! The plan? To create more space and even more quality for our guests. The proven team, Gitti Strolz and interior designer Gerald “Gerry” Schriebl, started the creative process around two years ago. Over the summer, everything is being implemented. We have made a conscious decision not to present any renderings at this point. We’d rather tell the stories of how the new rooms are being created and show the first designs. Then you can simply let the images form in your mind’s eye and maybe even start enjoying the anticipation of your next winter holiday at the Schmelzhof Boutique-Hotel in Lech am Arlberg today.
The most important thing. The beds.
Good and restful sleep is the basis for a perfect holiday experience. That’s why we attach such importance to the quality of the beds at the Schmelzhof. In our opinion, the best hotel beds are made by a company called Schraml in Nüziders near Bludenz. Based on the positive feedback left by many of our guests over the years, they agree. Of course, the look of a bed is also important when creating a quality living and sleeping space. This is why we design the headboards for the beds ourselves and have them covered with exquisite fabrics in designs by Charlene Mullen from London (read more here).
Practical and beautiful. The furniture.
It may sound a little crazy. Our furniture is created first and foremost on paper. Built-in cupboards, washbasins, mirrors, chests of drawers and bedside tables. Gerry sharpens his pencil and sketches some first ideas. Everything is then discussed, revised, discussed again and finally the drawings are completed. The Salzburger joinery from Tyrol, who we have been working with for three decades, then takes precise measurements and implements everything according to Gitti and Gerry’s specifications. Much of it is made using local fir. The wood is sustainable and gives the room a healthy and warm feel.
Elegant and exquisite. The fabrics
A positive tactile experience is an essential part of a hotel room. Gitti and Gerry are actually constantly on the lookout for new fabrics. They often find what they are looking for at Pierre Frey, for example at the “Maison&Objet” trade fair in Paris. The new collection by Pierre Frey offers wonderful woollen fabrics in stunning, rich colours that fit perfectly in a winter hotel like the Schmelzhof. After all, materials and colours provide a special sense of well-being, especially in the colder months, often adding an unconscious element of warmth to the room. Of course, local woollen fabrics are also used. They are among the best in the world: merino loden from Leichtfried in Styria, Steiner loden and Tyrolean loden. When you are next at the Schmelzhof, be sure to really take in these exquisite fabrics.
Shining stars. The lamps and lights.
Yes, even the lamps are designed by us and Gerry, to get them exactly as we want them. Then suggestions are made by a lighting specialist from Salzburg, prototypes are tested extensively in the rooms and – if found to be good – they are produced in Munich. Patterns for the lampshades are created for us by the designer Charlene Mullen. The ceiling lights are ordered from Mullan Lighting Design in Ireland. Sound like a lot of effort for a few lights? Yes, but we think it’s worth it. Because light creates a very special atmosphere in a room designed for our guests’ well-being.
At this point, we could tell you a lot more about our new rooms and suites, about our furnishing philosophy, about our thoughts and ideas, about our visions for the future. But now it’s time to dream of your next winter holiday at the Boutique-Hotel Schmelzhof. You can picture it already, can’t you?
