Family Spirit in the Schmelzhof – The Strolz Family

The Schmelzhof is a family-run hotel. Three generations of the Strolz family take care of their guests’ needs and wishes. Perhaps that’s what makes the Schmelzhof so special – the personal touch, the relaxed cosiness, the friendliness, the heartfelt warmth. We like our guests. And our guests can feel that. Many of them have been coming to stay with us for years, even for decades, and have become good friends. But new guests too sense the unique Schmelzhof feeling as soon as they enter – a feeling of not simply having arrived, but of belonging.

42 years Hotel Schmelzhof

The Schmelzhof has been welcoming visitors for some 42 years now! 41 years during which we’ve enjoyed many happy moments with our dear guests. Our father, Arthur, laid the foundation back in 1972. Just shortly afterwards he sadly passed away much too soon, and grandmother assumed the double role of mother and hotelier – and did so brilliantly. A strong woman who, in 1978 for example, built the first underground car park in Lech! In 1994 Gitti and Robert took over the Schmelzhof. The rebuilding in 2014 is a further milestone in Schmelzhof history and we are looking forward to the future joyously.

Gitti

is a hotelier with heart and soul. She anticipates her guests’ every wish and always ensures a jovial atmosphere. After all, life is full of causes for celebration. The entire interior décor, the individually appointed rooms and the countless decorative touches all carry Gitti’s thumbprint. She has a special talent in that area. You always have the feeling that everything is standing exactly where it needs to be. The many colours, from the cushions to the walls, bring a radiance to the hotel and create a warming contrast to the cool shades of the winter in Lech.

Robert

is the head of the house and takes care of all the important decisions. He especially loves to chat to his guests about fine magnum wines. And conversations about the Arlberg Ski Club always make his eyes light up. Robert was the chairman of Arlberg Ski Club for many years and was one of the co-founders of the ski.kultur.arlberg association, whereof the Austrian national broadcasting corporation “ORF” made a successful television documentary. And a very special book about the history of the Arlberg region has been published in autumn 2014. And yes, he does own shoes – even if you often see him padding about the Schmelzhof in his socks.

Josef-Anton, Arthur, Jakob and Franziska

The next generation has grown up. They say that when you observe children, you realise how quickly time passes. In our case that is certainly true. To many of our regular returning guests the passage of time is perhaps even more obvious since a whole year often lies between each new reencounter.
Our children have grown up here in the Schmelzhof and, over the past years, they have worked hard in the hotel, playing their part in helping the team. Serving, cooking or bar-tending in the new Blue Bar, Josef-Anton, Arthur and Jakob have already had their first taste of work in the hotel industry. But now foreign climes are a-calling once again. We believe it is important for young people to go out into the big, wide world, to meet new people, see new things or learn new languages. And how wonderful it is when they return with a wealth of valuable experiences. Our youngest child, Franziska, has also flown the nest. Having completed school here in Lech and a college of fashion design in Salzburg she is developing her creative talents.

And so we are always particularly thrilled on those occasions when we are all here together under one roof and we can, once again, fill the Schmelzhof to the full with the spirit of the Strolz family.
